2007 Sectionals in Palm Springs was a huge success for many of our SFV and LA teams. We had teams at most levels in all the flights, and win or lose, I saw an awful lot of happy yet focused faces. Everyone had a great deal of fun and good sporting tennis.
In Super Seniors, our 6.0 Men from Toluca Lake Tennis Club fought valiantly, only Sets Lost determined the winner, Sun City. Our 7.0 Ladies, from SFV, Team Gregory (need a better name next year!) made Finals, but lost to OC-Los Cab. The 7.0 LA Men from Marina City Club came in second in their flight. Congrats to all our Super, Super Seniors.
In the Tri-Level Division, our 3.5/4.0/4.5 Women from Braemar were the winners and will move on to a National Invitational Event. Bravo, Braemar!
Our Fall Doubles matches again showed the strength of SFV and LA. In the 3.0 Division, the Paseo Club's Sweet Shots (Women) took the Gold, wining in the Finals 2-1. The Porter Valley TC (Men) made the Finals, taking home the Silver. The 3.5 SFV women from Warner Center, Warner Sisters, won the gold as did the LA 4.0 women, the Players, who defeated the always mighty SGV team. Then to top the cake, the 4.0 men from SFV, Cabrini Aces, swept the Finals, defeating the team from Ojai.
So, how much fun was it! I had fun working the desk, seeing how great the matches were, how spirited the competition, and observing a lot of really generous line calls. Hope every player in the league gets a chance to play in an Area Playoff, Sectional or National during a tennis experience that can last a lifetime.
